Conservation — nature and tradition

I like to explore the connection — or disconnection — between characters and the natural environment in my writing. When I’m not at work, you can find me tromping or riding over the hills near my home in  South Carolina, and, when I can get away with it, on the other side of the Atlantic.

I’m also engaged with cultural preservation and seek to reflect that in my own work.

I offer several workshops that help participants connect deeply with the natural world and with their own cultural tradition — or with the culture of their fictional characters. These workshops balance detailed research with the use of freewriting and imagination to create dynamic writing. They can take place indoors or on trails, rivers and other wild places.
