About

HMagruder headshot color 1Originally from Kilmarnock, Scotland, I’m a writer and yoga teacher currently based in the foothills of South Carolina, where I live with two of my three children, a pair of Labrador-mix dogs, a set of bagpipes and a Royal Enfield motorcycle. My fiction and creative nonfiction are published in a variety of periodicals — mostly recently in Northwords Now, Prime Number and Six Minute Magazine. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte and am a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance.

In my own fiction and creative nonfiction, I like to explore the connection — or disconnection — between characters and the natural environment. Through yoga and meditation, I practice deepening my connection with whatever environment I find myself in, on and off the matt. When I’m not at work, you can find me tromping or riding over the hills near home, and, when I can get away with it, on the other side of the Atlantic.

My classes, workshops and coaching work focus primarily on helping people access their own stories. This might be to process their past, as is the case for my work with members of the adoption triad; it might be to help people envision a path forward; it may be to capture family stories to hand down to the next generation; it might be to work with concepts like gratitude or forgiveness; it may also be creating fiction or creative nonfiction with a view to publication. Whatever the reason, I seek to help writers engage fully with their stories and to draw out the best work possible.

Please message me here if you’d like to chat — email, phone or Skype — about how I might help you or your group tell your story.

Cheers,

Heather

Hi Tom. How’s things? It’s a 2008, but it has been altered. The electric start was removed and replaced with a kick start. What model do you have?
